The 2008 Blue Eagle Drumline will consist of 11 members this year. The line will be composed of 4 bass drums, 5 snare drums, and 2 tenors. Along with the drumline, we have 10 talented percussionists that provide the "tings," "bings," and "zings" as well as melodic and harmonic contribution in the front ensemble, or "the pit." The award winning percussion section is an elite and disciplined unit of the band. Many hours of tedious practice and diligent work is put in between the months of August and November. This hard work does pay off during the competition season, for the percussion section is respected by many bands on the East coast.
There are many traditions associated with the entire percussion section. The one huge tradition is the Spam breakfast. Near the time of championships there is a sleepover with the entire section. In the morning there is a large breakfast of eggs, muffins, french toast, and SPAM! Also, rookie initiation takes place at this get together. All the rookies are lined up in a row. They are then given a piece of banana and a sip of Sprite by a senior member. A very interesting reaction takes place inside your mouth when the 2 are mixed. Go ahead and try it if you dare! This year's percussion section has the talent and potential to be champions once again. I strongly believe they will succeed. <
